Introduction to Hand Tools

Introduction to Hand Tools

$550.00

Saturdays 3pm-6pm for 3 weeks:

02/01, 02/08 & 02/22

NO CLASS ON 02/15

** PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU’RE ABLE TO ATTEND ALL THREE CLASSES **

In this three-session workshop you will be guided through the fundamentals of working with hand tools, including using hand saws, chisels, hand planes, essential marking and measuring tools, and the basics of sharpening. In the process you’ll make your own hardwood woodworking mallet, using the all-versatile dado joint and classic mortise and tenon joinery.

If you are new to woodworking, this hand tool-focused class will be an enjoyable and accessible introduction to the craft. And if you have some experience using machines, working with hand tools will help you forge a deeper connection with the material, advance your skills, and achieve a level of precision and control that is difficult to achieve with power tools, all while fostering a more mindful and deliberate approach to the woodworking process.

This introductory hand tools course will meet for 3 weeks from 3pm-6pm, at the home of Bien Hecho Academy in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
